Ask the Career Surgeon
A Career Change?
I want to do something completely different work wise and was thinking of doing a beauty therapy course.
Q. Hi Caragh,
A Happy New Year to you.
I am a young 43 old lady that is really stuck in a rut at the moment. I worked for most of my life in an office environment and when I was in my mid 30’s changed over to a career in Sales which I really did enjoy for the past 10 years.
However, due to the downturn in the economy and wanting to take the pressure off myself I decided to go back into an office role (Purchasing Manager) at the moment but I just feel it’s not what I want.
I have always had a huge interest in health matters, particurlay beauty therapy. I want to do something completely different work wise and was thinking of doing a beauty therapy course.
I can only see myself sticking this new job for another year (if that) as I don’t enjoy going to work at the moment.
Can you recommend a course that I could take that will give the proper qualiifcations to pursue a role in beauty theraphy?
Beacuse of my long hours in my new job I was looking to do a course near where I live or where I have not too far to travel to after work.
Can you recommend any college of courses that I could take up AS SOON AS POSSIBLE with certifcates at the end of it. I know 43 may seem old to taking up this type of course but I belive age is just a number.
I hope you can help me.
Many thanks.
Kind Regards
Caroline
A. Hi Caroline, Happy new year to you too.
You have chosen a good time to look at evening classes as enrolments will be taking place over the next few weeks, Several colleges are offering a variety of courses - for example there are introduction courses in Beauty Care (not certified but a good taster) in Old Bawn (01 4520566) for 8 weeks from the end of this month, similar courses to this one take place in a lot of the VECs - check your most local one.
Crumlin College are offering Waxing or Gel Nails (both certified) or a diploma in anatomy and physiology or a course in Indian head massage for 10 weeks starting this month www.crumlincollege.ie
I understand that the Bronyn Conroy Beauty School is offering a part time beautician diploma course on Saturdays, it is a CIBTAC diploma and runs until Sept starting on the 24th of this month http://www.bronwynconroy.com/index.htm
(CIBTAC course on Saturdays from Jan- Sept €2,750).
You may also find it helpful to search for courses on www.nightcourses.com
Good luck- GO FOR IT!
