AutoCAD is the world's most popular computer-aided drafting software. It is used by over six million professionals worldwide in a number of areas such as civil engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering and within the architectural, interior design and construction industries.

In the old days, drafters sat at drawing boards and used pencils, pens, compasses, protractors, triangles, and other drafting devices to prepare a drawing manually. `

Most drafters now use AutoCAD. CAD stands for "computer aided drafting," and is essential in allowing technicians to create blueprints and layouts in very little time.

Eden Training has achieved great success in putting a large number of candidates through FETAC Level 5 AutoCAD certification in 2008.

According to James Bannigan, Business Development Manager at Eden Training, Candidates taking the course in 2008 were from a wide range of backgrounds including architects, interior designers, landscape gardeners and individuals with an interest in design and computer design packages. Civil, electirical and mechanical engineers also featured significantly.

"We have been training AutoCAD for the past 10 years and have used our experience to develop courses to meet market needs", says Bannigan. "We felt there was a significant need for a recognised certification on this application. We are already a FETAC registered provider.

"The progression to offer a certified AutoCAD course mapped on the National Qualifications framework was logical. And so the Computer Aided Draughting (2D) - FETAC Level 5 provided by FETAC was a perfect fit."

Eden's range of AutoCAD courses offer participants the opportunity to learn this essential design package from basic to advanced skill level. And the training style employed is geared to assist participants in attaining the knowledge and experience required to competently utilise this application in the workplace.

"Training can take place at a client's own premises or we can offer clients the use of our modern and spacious, training laboratories", says Bannigan. "Our facility offers an excellent learning environment in the quiet surrounds of the Eden Centre, at Grange Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16.

"We are located close to the M50 ensuring accessibility to all in the greater Dublin and Leinster region."

Starting salaries for CAD Technician are usually €25,000 to €28,000 a year, rising with experience to around €32,000 a year. Higher earners can make over €35,000 a year.
